The importance of writing

Pupils who lack the ability to write clearly and comprehensively can be judged on the way they write instead on their knowledge of the subject they write about.

There are several forms of writing and pupils need to know when these should be applied:

Narrative writing is a fictitious or non-fictitious story which might be a biography or a fairy tale.

Factual report is found in articles and news stories and should be backed up with evidence and facts.

Descriptive writing is writing that includes descriptive phrases with metaphors and similes. It is found in stories and poetry.

Persuasive writing can be found in advertisements and courtrooms and should include strong, logical arguments.
